Tiago Forte, a productivity expert and author of Building a Second Brain, has a great YouTube series on his book summarization process for maximum comprehension. As part of that he shared this tip on how to export all your Kindle highlights so you can work with them – for free!
Taking Good Notes Improves Reading Comprehension
Improving reading comprehension is a skill I’m working on. I can highlight the heck out of an ebook, but still have trouble remembering the main points or taking action on what I’ve learned.
My speed reading essay talked about the importance of taking notes for synthesizing what you’ve read and Tiago’s summarization process uses Kindle highlights as the basis for developing good notes.
Here’s how to get access to your highlights – all together in one document.
How To Export Kindle Highlights For Free
Step 1: Get The Bookcision Browser Plugin
The Bookcision browser plugin is super easy to install. Go to the link and simply drag the icon to your bookmarks bar. Done.
Step 2: Log in at read.amazon.com
This right here blew my mind. Did you know your entire Kindle library – including all your highlights – is available at read.amazon.com? Me either!
Once you login to Amazon, click on “Notes & Highlights”, open the book title you want the highlights from. Then click the “Bookcision” plugin in your bookmarks.
And viola! You can either download the highlights as a .txt file or copy and paste them into a document.
